eBay CEO questions same-day delivery services

Same day shipping is a growing trend in business.

Same day shipping is a growing trend in business.

One of the hottest trends in the shipping and logistics sector has been the growing need for quicker delivery. In many cases this has meant a push for same-day delivery. This can be seen in the several different attempts to get drone delivery services off the ground, only to be grounded by the FAA.

In a recent presentation to Wall Street, eBay CEO John Donahoe spoke about this growing demand. He mentioned that the recently launched eBay Now system, which allows certain companies to ship same day in specific locations, was the idea of several enterprise clients.

Donahoe said that the successful launch has proved same-day delivery is possible and can be a viable service. However, it is not a major business line that the company plans to pursue for all its retail customers.

"In this room, by and large, we have money but no time," Donahoe said. "So the notion of shopping quick—we may or may not like shopping—but that's really appealing. The bulk of consumers either have more time than money, so they're willing to search for value, and convenience is one of the criteria but value is a much bigger criteria, or two, they like shopping. Shopping is entertainment."

In the end, eBay is looking for different ways to improve the services it provides to its customers and offer more choice. With the help of a third party logistics provider, any organization will be able to take steps toward improving their overall operations and answering customers shipping needs.
