Online shopping creates demand for quality delivery services
The increased boom in online shopping has had a dramatic effect on two separate industries. While the impact on the retail world is obvious — more consumers are looking to make purchases through an online platform — it is also increased press on delivery services.
Every product purchased online needs to make the trek from processing location to the consumer's door step. This makes the need for a quality service critical. If a package is late or arrives damaged, that takes away from the entire shopping experience and consumers are not necessarily going to blame the delivery service, but the merchant they made the initial purchase through.
A recent article from The Economic Times examined the boom that has created stiff competition among the third party logistics firms in India. It has become so fierce that new organizations are popping up to trying and capitalize on the opportunity.
"Typically companies that offered plain vanilla courier services found themselves called upon to provide rapid delivery for shipments ranging from books to electronics and furniture," Sanjiv Kathuria, who set up DotZot last year to offer logistics only for ecommerce firms. "Initially logistics companies were not able to meet the requirements of online companies. That is now changing."
This is a trend that can be seen across the world. Any company that sells products online needs to have a quality delivery service backing it. This can help with everything from warehousing to order processing to timely delivery.
