On national doughnut day, Dunkin Donuts has announced a new delivery service.

Today is National Doughnut Day. Started 76 years ago by the Salvation Army to commemorate World War I volunteers, it is held the first Friday of June. Many famous eateries including Krispy Kreme and Tim Horton's are offering free doughnuts to customers, through purchase of an additional item may be required.

Dunkin Donuts, the popular New England-based coffee shop, is also participating in the day. However, according to the Boston Globe, the company is also introducing a new way to get your coffee and sugar fix -- delivery.

The service is only available in select areas of Boston including Downtown, Back Bay, Cambridge and Somerville. The business partnered with online delivery site Foodler to create the ordering platform and a company named Dashed does the actual transportation.

The catch, however, is that the order minimum is $20 with a $6.99 delivery fee. This means that the solution is designed for group deliveries like the office afternoon coffee run. According to Dashed CEO Phil Dumontet, corporate deliveries have made up a bulk of the early orders. There is hope that once the service starts to take off, it will be able to expand to other locations.

Delivery services are starting to gain more traction across every business sector. Whether it is a doughnut and coffee or important legal documents, this is something that organizations can not take lightly. Logistics can be complicated and without a reliable 3PL service, trying to fulfill orders can face any number of pitfalls.
