Amazon expands same-day delivery to six additional cities
The final weeks of summer are a big time for retailers as consumers start their back-to-school shopping. Not only are parents upgrading their children's wardrobe, but college-aged young adults are looking to upgrade their apartments. And they all need notebooks, pens and more.
Just in-time for this run, Amazon has announced that it has expanded its same-day delivery service known as "Get It Today" to six new metropolitan areas. This includes Baltimore, Dallas, Indianapolis, New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. The service was already in place in Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco and Seattle.
"Imagine how much time you will save now that you can get sunscreen, memory cards, toothpaste, hit movies, text books and HDMI cables all delivered to your home in hours, seven days a week, in one order from Amazon," Greg Greeley, Vice President, Amazon Prime, said in the press release.
The use of same-day delivery has become a tool for many companies over the last few years. Recently, a number of companies including Amazon and Google have been made it a major push for organizations. Because consumers have started to expect more instant accommodations, offering immediate delivery is something that every business can use to drive sales.
Creating a same-day delivery arm of your business is harder than just buying some trucks and hiring some drivers. Warehousing, order processing, payment and much more needs to be considered and sorted out. This is where a qualified third party logistics firm can become a valuable resource. Not only can a partner lay out a plan, it can help execute nearly every aspect of it.
